There are five positions to which the leadership of TMCC is humbly committed. Unlike our Core Beliefs, complete agreement with these distinctive is not required for membership, only a gracious recognition that these convictions will influence how the church is organized and taught.
The Centrality of the Gospel. The Gospel is the good news of what God has graciously and powerfully accomplished through the sinless life, sacrificial death, and bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ - namely that all who trust in Christ are reconciled to God and free from the curse of sin and death! We believe the Old Testament points forward to the finished work of Jesus while the New Testament points backward to the same, so we are committed to teaching and preaching every portion of Scripture while pointing out the crimson thread of the Gospel that runs from Genesis to Revelation. (John 3:16-18; Romans 1:16-25; 1 Corinthians 1:18-25, 2 Corinthians 1:19-20, Ephesians 1: 7-10; Colossians 1: 19-20, Hebrews 1-4)
The Sovereignty of God in Salvation. Salvation is a miracle performed solely by God. Due to the pervasive influence of our sinfulness, mankind is utterly incapable of saving himself. This truth gives the Christian assurance of their salvation today and confident hope in their future salvation, because “he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” God’s sovereignty in salvation does not diminish the need for evangelism or man’s responsibility to trust in Christ by faith. In fact, they are the ordained means by which God accomplishes his purposes. (John 1:12-13, Philippians 1:6, 2 Timothy 2:25, Romans 9)
The Leadership of a Plurality of Qualified Men. God’s design for the local church is to be overseen and served by a plurality of elders. Together, this team of qualified men provides the body with the shepherding (teaching, leadership and spiritual protection) necessary to safely grow up in Christ. This practice provides support and accountability for all leaders and ensures more well-rounded care to the church body. (Ephesians 4:7-13, 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5, Hebrews 13:17) The qualifications explained
The Complementary Roles of Men and Women. Both men and women are equal in dignity as co-image bearers of God. God, in His wisdom, has assigned men and women unique and complementary roles within the church and the home. Men have a God-given responsibility as a sacrificial servant-leaders and women have a God-given responsibility to serve along-side and support in significant ways. Together, both the church and the home have what they need to thrive as God designed them. (Genesis 1-2, Ephesians 5:21-29, 1 Timothy 2:11-15) Read our position paper
The Primacy of Expository Preaching and Teaching. God’s Word is best handled when approached as it was given to His people, in its own grammatical-historical context and with the writer’s and the Holy Spirit’s original intent in mind. This means that the main message of the sermon/study is extracted from the main message of the text (exegesis). While topical teaching is often needed, a regular diet of going through books of the Bible and large portions of Scripture is the best way to ensure God’s people are taught the whole counsel of God’s Word. (Nehemiah 8:8, Acts 20:27, 2 Timothy 4:2)
